FlightPower currently offers Lithium Polymer nanotechnology lipo batteries based on cells from 25C LiPo to 50C discharge rating as well as an advanced 6000mAh technology demonstrator product capable of 70C. Throughout 2011 FlightPower pioneered several very high powered Electric Vehicle demonstration products for electric drag racing competition, first seen in the Black Current III, and later in the Predator Bike and Lawless Lemon Juice S11 road legal car. Each vehicle demonstration has yielded an official NEDRA world speed record in its class. FlightPower has also supplied a battery system for the world record holding Rocket electric drag bike, a 1.5 Megawatt vehicle based on a chassis built by OCC of Discovery Channel American Chopper fame. The Rocket drag bike is currently the worlds fastest electric vehicle. FlightPower was subsequently featured in December 2011 on American Chopper Live in another novel OCC vehicle. Julian Cox has stated that the company's designs and the underlying technology is now sufficiently mature, and proven to be ready for electric vehicle conversion, prototyping and economic mass production. The company is able to base designs around very large, very stable low mass LiFePO4 (LiFe Cells) suitable for ten years of use, 2000 charge cycles and operable under conditions ranging from winter in Alaska to summer in Nevada. Additionally as a direct heritage from RC FlightPower is leading the development of electronically regulated very high power:weight ratio batteries that are wonderful power plants in passenger carrying electric aircraft, deploying the same techniques that have been race proven in electric vehicles with performance exceeding 1KW per Kg.
Until now FlightPower industrial and vehicle products have been exclusively collaborative ventures, working closely with vehicle and airframe (and hull) designers. FlightPower is now able to offer a number of modular patent pending designs that are available to order.
'The mission of FlightPower from the first vision of the possibilities for high power lithium cells a decade ago has been to contribute to making the world a better place through a clean technology that is exciting, affordable and genuinely better than fuel. We are excited to be in the right place at the right time as the technology and our understanding of it has matured to have the opportunity to do just that'.
Julian Cox, CEO, FlightPower Lithium Polymer Ltd. 2012.
